David

David helped look after his mum who had mental health issues. He helped around the house and supported mum with things like taking her medication. David needed something to look forward to and deserved a ‘thank you’.

When we first met him he told us that he would like to ‘drive a tank’! Unfortunately, try as we might, we weren’t able to find one that would travel easily up his street. Not to be deterred – David’s second choice of smile was to be a ‘Captain on a boat’.

We contacted the Mersey Ferries and when they heard how much David deserved his ‘smile’ they were more than happy to help. It was a freezing cold day when David and his best friend arrived at the docks. We had bought a Captain’s uniform for David – he looked so smart and very much the part. Captain David and his pal were shown all around the boat whilst passengers were piling on ready to ferry cross the Mersey. Eventually, David went onto the deck where he actually navigated the vessel. He handled it with expertise with a big smile on his face. He had a spectacular day – one none of us will ever forget.
